“Notes Towards Dissipation of Desire” was published on the occasion of the exhibitions: Knut Åsdam, Museet for Samtidskunst, The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo, (Norway) 23. March - 3, June 2001 Knut Åsdam, Kunsthaus Glarus, 7 (Switzerland), 7. April-10. June 2001.
The publication is a compilation of the artists notes, sketches, images, theoretical reflections and text fragments leading up the work process for Notes Towards Dissipation of Desire. It also contains a collection of text fragments and quotes by various writers and theorists such as Georges Bataille, Roger Callois, Gilles Deleuze, Julia Kristeva and Jeff Noon, providing theoretical framework and inspiration for the installation. The use of photographs, drawings and moving images intends to deal with the search for political meaning or political desire showing scenes by from political protests, in which both groups; protesters and police enter a symbiosis with each other, the city and the political architecture. Architectural shots set the frame of the video in the economical and utopical socialistic context of the city. Expressing apathy and breakdown of language and the body, the drawings engage with a social and political understanding of the body.
